Installation

Unpack and inspect all components. Ensure proper location with adequate clearance.

  1. Position filter: Place on level concrete pad or stable surface near pool equipment.
  2. Connect plumbing: Use appropriate PVC pipes and fittings for inlet and outlet connections.
  3. Electrical connections: Ensure pump and timer are properly wired by qualified electrician.
  4. Install multiport valve: Follow manufacturer instructions for proper seating and sealing.
  5. Pressure test: Check all connections for leaks before adding DE powder.

WARNING! Filter operates under high pressure; ensure all connections are secure before operation. Use two people for handling heavy components.

First-Time Setup

Complete installation before initial startup and DE addition.

  1. Prime system: Open air relief valve, start pump until water flows steadily, close valve.
  2. Add DE powder: Calculate required amount based on filter size, mix with water in bucket.
  3. Initial charge: Pour DE mixture into skimmer while pump is running.
  4. Check pressure: Note clean pressure reading for future reference.
  5. Set multiport: Ensure valve is in FILTER position for normal operation.

CAUTION! Wear protective mask when handling DE powder. Avoid inhalation.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Multiport valve positions: FILTER, BACKWASH, RINSE, WASTE, RECIRCULATE, CLOSED, WINTERIZE.

Normal Operation: FILTER position for standard filtration. Pressure gauge monitoring for maintenance scheduling.

Backwash Procedure: Turn pump off, move handle to BACKWASH, restart pump for 2-3 minutes or until sight glass clears. Rinse cycle: Turn pump off, move to RINSE, run for 30 seconds. Waste: Bypasses filter directly to waste line. Recirculate: Bypasses filter for chemical distribution. Closed: Shuts off flow to filter for maintenance.

Connecting to Pool System

Proper integration with pool pump, heater, and chemical feeder.

  1. Install after pump: Filter should be positioned after pump and before heater.
  2. Check flow direction: Ensure proper inlet/outlet orientation.
  3. Valve positioning: Multiport valve should be easily accessible for operation.
  4. Waste line: Connect proper drainage for backwash water disposal.

Tip: Use unions for easy disconnection during maintenance. Ensure all plumbing is pressure tested.

Operation Procedures

Daily operation and routine maintenance procedures.

  1. Startup: Open air relief valve, start pump, close valve when water flows steadily.
  2. Normal filtration: Monitor pressure gauge; backwash when pressure rises 8-10 PSI above clean pressure.
  3. Backwash cycle: Follow proper backwash and rinse procedure.
  4. DE recharge: Add fresh DE powder after each backwash.
  5. Seasonal shutdown: Proper winterization procedures for cold climates.

WARNING! Never operate filter with multiport valve between positions. Always turn pump off before changing valve positions.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance schedule and procedures for optimal performance.

Maintenance TaskFrequencyProcedure
Pressure monitoringDailyCheck and record filter pressure
BackwashWhen pressure rises 8-10 PSIComplete backwash and rinse cycle
DE rechargeAfter each backwashAdd fresh DE powder
Grid cleaningAnnually or as neededDisassemble and clean grid assembly
O-ring lubricationEvery 6 monthsApply silicone lubricant to all O-rings

Care & Cleaning

Proper cleaning procedures for filter components and tank.

  1. Grid cleaning: Remove grids, hose off DE, soak in grid cleaner if necessary.
  2. Tank cleaning: Rinse interior with garden hose, remove any debris.
  3. Multiport valve: Clean spider gasket and lubricate with silicone grease.
  4. Pressure gauge: Check for accuracy, replace if malfunctioning.

CAUTION! Always depressurize system before opening. Wear protective gloves and eyewear during cleaning.
