Installation

Unpack and inspect all components. Select level, stable location near pool equipment.

  1. Position filter: Place on solid, level surface near pool pump and heater.
  2. Connect plumbing: Use appropriate PVC pipes and fittings for inlet and outlet connections.
  3. Add filter sand: Fill tank with specified grade and amount of filter sand.
  4. Connect multi-port valve: Ensure proper alignment and secure connection.
  5. Prime system: Fill filter tank with water before starting pump.

WARNING! Filter is heavy when filled; ensure proper support. Follow all local plumbing codes.

First-Time Setup

Complete installation and prepare for operation.

  1. Add filter media: Fill with #20 silica sand as specified for your model.
  2. Prime system: Fill tank with water through skimmer until water flows from returns.
  3. Set multi-port valve: Position to "FILTER" for normal operation.
  4. Start pump: Turn on pool pump and check for leaks.
  5. Bleed air: Open air relief valve until water flows consistently.

CAUTION! Never operate pump without water in filter. Ensure all connections are watertight.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Multi-port valve provides complete control of filtration operations.

Valve Positions: FILTER (normal operation), BACKWASH (cleaning), RINSE (settling), WASTE (bypass filter), RECIRCULATE (pump only), CLOSED (system off).

Pressure Gauge: Monitors filter pressure; clean when pressure rises 8-10 PSI above clean pressure. Air Relief Valve: Manual release for trapped air. Drain Plug: Complete tank drainage for winterizing or maintenance.

Connecting to Pool System

Proper plumbing connections ensure optimal performance.

  1. Turn off pump and electrical power before connecting.
  2. Connect inlet: From pool pump to filter inlet port.
  3. Connect outlet: From filter outlet to pool return lines.
  4. Use appropriate pipe size and schedule for your flow requirements.
  5. Install unions for easy maintenance and service access.

Tip: Use Teflon tape on all threaded connections. Allow proper cure time for glued joints.

Operation and Filtration

Standard filtration cycle and backwashing procedures.

  1. Normal Operation: Set multi-port to "FILTER" position.
  2. Monitor Pressure: Check gauge regularly; note clean filter pressure.
  3. Backwash When: Pressure rises 8-10 PSI above clean pressure.
  4. Backwash Procedure: Turn off pump, set to "BACKWASH", restart pump for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Rinse Procedure: Turn off pump, set to "RINSE", restart for 30-60 seconds.
  6. Return to Filter: Turn off pump, set to "FILTER", restart pump.
  7. Air Relief: Open air relief valve until water flows, then close.

WARNING! Always turn off pump before changing valve positions. Never force valve handle.

Maintenance Procedures

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

Daily: Check pressure gauge. Weekly: Inspect for leaks, clean skimmer baskets. Monthly: Check sand level, inspect lateral assembly. Annually: Deep clean sand media, inspect all components.

Care & Cleaning

Regular cleaning maintains filter efficiency and extends service life.

Exterior: Clean with mild soap and water. Interior: Backwash regularly; deep clean sand annually. Gasket Maintenance: Lubricate O-rings with silicone grease. Winterizing: Drain completely, store in protected area.

CAUTION! Use only approved cleaners. Never use abrasive materials on filter surfaces.
