Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect all components. Place on stable, level surface.

  1. Remove packaging materials and protective covers.
  2. Attach foot controller to machine and power cord to outlet.
  3. Install needle: Loosen needle clamp screw, insert needle with flat side to back, tighten screw.
  4. Wind bobbin: Place thread on spool pin, follow threading guide, wind bobbin.
  5. Insert bobbin: Place bobbin in case with thread unwinding counterclockwise.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during operation. Unplug when not in use.

First-Time Operation

Plug in machine and turn on power switch.

  1. Thread machine: Follow numbered threading path on machine.
  2. Use automatic needle threader: Pull down lever, hook thread through needle eye.
  3. Select stitch: Turn stitch selection dial to desired pattern.
  4. Adjust settings: Set stitch length and width as needed.

Stitch Selection

  4. Use reverse stitch button to secure beginnings and endings.
  5. For buttonholes: Select buttonhole stitch, place button in foot, machine creates perfect buttonhole.

Tip: Always test stitch on scrap fabric before sewing project.

Bobbin and Threading

Top-loading bobbin system for easy use.

  1. Bobbin winding: Place thread on spool pin, guide through tension disc, wind bobbin.
  2. Bobbin insertion: Place bobbin in case with thread unwinding counterclockwise.
  3. Upper threading: Follow numbered path from spool to needle.
  4. Automatic threading: Pull down needle threader lever, hook thread, release lever.
  5. Thread tension: Adjust dial for balanced stitches.

WARNING! Ensure bobbin is properly seated to prevent jamming.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Unplug machine before cleaning.
  2. Remove needle plate to clean lint from bobbin area.
  3. Oil moving parts as specified in manual.
  4. Wipe exterior with soft, dry cloth.
  5. Replace needle regularly (every 8-10 hours of sewing).

CAUTION! Use only Janome recommended oil. Do not use compressed air for cleaning.
