Installation and Setup

Unpack and inspect all components. Place on stable, level surface.

  1. Remove machine from packaging and remove all protective materials.
  2. Attach extension table if removed for transport.
  3. Connect foot pedal to machine and power outlet.
  4. Plug power cord into machine and wall outlet (120V AC).
  5. Install needle and thread according to threading diagram.
  6. Wind and insert bobbin following bobbin winding instructions.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during operation. Always turn off power when threading or changing accessories.

First-Time Operation

Power on machine; follow initial setup steps.

  1. Thread machine: Follow numbered threading path on machine.
  2. Insert bobbin: Place bobbin in case with thread unwinding counterclockwise.
  3. Select basic straight stitch: Turn stitch selector to position 1.
  4. Practice on scrap fabric: Test stitch length and tension settings.
  5. Adjust thread tension: Start with setting 4 and adjust as needed.
  6. Practice reverse stitching: Use reverse lever to reinforce seams.

CAUTION! Always start with needle in highest position. Keep work area well-lit and free of obstructions.

  1. Attach buttonhole foot and position fabric.
  2. Measure button and set buttonhole length accordingly.
  3. Turn stitch selector to buttonhole position.
  4. Lower buttonhole lever and press foot pedal.
  5. Machine automatically sews all four sides of buttonhole.
  6. Reinforce beginning and end with few reverse stitches.
  7. Cut buttonhole open using seam ripper or buttonhole chisel.

WARNING! Keep fingers clear of moving needle during buttonhole creation.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Unplug machine before cleaning or maintenance.
  2. Remove needle plate and clean lint from bobbin area.
  3. Oil machine according to lubrication points in manual.
  4. Wipe exterior with soft, dry cloth.
  5. Replace needle regularly (every 8-10 hours of sewing).
  6. Check belt tension periodically.

CAUTION! Use only Janome recommended oil. Do not use compressed air for cleaning.
