Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable sewing table.

  1. Remove packaging materials and protective covers.
  2. Place machine on flat, stable surface at comfortable height.
  3. Install foot controller: Plug into machine port.
  4. Connect power cord to machine and electrical outlet.
  5. Install needle: Loosen needle clamp screw, insert needle with flat side to back.
  6. Install bobbin: Follow top-loading bobbin instructions.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during operation. Unplug when not in use.

First-Time Setup

Power on machine; follow setup procedures.

  1. Thread machine: Follow threading guide printed on machine.
  2. Wind bobbin: Place thread on spool pin, follow bobbin winding path.
  3. Insert bobbin: Drop into bobbin case with thread clockwise.
  4. Test stitches: Select basic straight stitch and test on fabric scrap.
  5. Adjust tension: Test on double fabric layer; adjust if needed.

CAUTION! Always start with needle in highest position. Keep work area clean.

Stitch Selection: Turn dial to choose from 55 stitches. Stitch Length: Adjust for shorter/longer stitches. Stitch Width: Adjust for zigzag and decorative stitches. Reverse: Hold button for reinforcement stitching. Needle Position: Stop with needle up or down.

Connecting Accessories

  2. Align presser foot with ankle; lower presser foot lever to lock.

Tip: Always raise needle to highest position before changing feet.

Basic Sewing Operations

  3. Buttonhole: Select buttonhole stitch, follow automatic sequence.

  5. Reverse Stitching: Hold reverse button to secure stitches.
  6. Free-motion: Lower feed dogs for quilting and embroidery.
  7. Gathering: Use longer stitch length with tight upper tension.

WARNING! Never pull fabric while sewing. Let feed dogs move fabric.

Special Functions

Automatic Needle Threader: Push lever down and forward. Drop Feed: Lower lever for free-motion work. Needle Up/Down: Programmable stop position.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug before cleaning. Remove lint regularly from bobbin area and feed dogs.

  1. Clean bobbin area after each project.
  2. Oil machine as indicated in manual (specific points only).
  3. Cover machine when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.
  4. Use only Janome recommended needles and accessories.

CAUTION! Do not use compressed air for cleaning. Use only sewing machine oil.
