Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable sewing table.

  1. Remove packaging materials and protective covers from machine.
  2. Attach power cord to machine and plug into electrical outlet.
  3. Install foot controller and connect to machine.
  4. Wind bobbin and insert into bobbin case following threading diagram.
  5. Thread upper thread using automatic needle threader.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during operation. Always turn off power when threading or changing needles.

First-Time Operation

Power on machine; test basic functions.

  1. Select straight stitch using stitch selection dial.
  2. Place fabric under presser foot and lower foot lever.
  3. Gently press foot controller to begin sewing.
  4. Practice basic stitches on scrap fabric.
  5. Test reverse stitch function for seam reinforcement.

CAUTION! Always use correct needle for fabric type. Replace bent or damaged needles immediately.

Stitch Selection

60 built-in stitches including utility, decorative, and stretch stitches.

  1. Turn stitch selection dial to desired stitch number.

  4. Test stitch on scrap fabric before sewing project.
  5. Use reverse stitch to secure beginning and end of seams.

Buttonhole Function

One-step auto-size buttonholes in 4 styles.

  1. Attach buttonhole foot and place button in foot holder.
  2. Select desired buttonhole style on stitch dial.
  3. Lower presser foot and start sewing - machine automatically creates perfect buttonhole.
  4. Buttonhole is completed in one continuous operation.
  5. Use seam ripper to open buttonhole after sewing.

WARNING! Always practice buttonholes on scrap fabric first. Ensure button is properly sized for buttonhole foot.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Unplug machine before cleaning or maintenance.
  2. Remove lint and dust from bobbin area regularly.
  3. Oil machine as indicated in maintenance schedule.
  4. Wipe exterior with soft, dry cloth.
  5. Store machine with cover when not in use.

CAUTION! Use only Janome recommended oils and cleaning tools. Do not use compressed air for cleaning.
