Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable sewing table.

  1. Remove packaging materials and protective covers.
  2. Attach power cord to machine and plug into AC outlet.
  3. Install foot control pedal if using.
  4. Wind bobbin and thread machine following threading diagram.
  5. Insert needle properly with flat side to back.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during operation. Always turn off power when threading or changing needle.

First-Time Setup

Power on machine; follow initial setup procedures.

  1. Thread machine: Follow numbered threading path on machine.
  2. Wind bobbin: Place thread on spool pin, wind bobbin using bobbin winding system.
  3. Insert bobbin: Drop bobbin into case with thread unwinding counterclockwise.
  4. Select stitch: Turn dial to desired stitch pattern.
  5. Test sew: Use scrap fabric to test stitch settings.

CAUTION! Ensure proper needle installation to prevent damage. Use correct needle for fabric type.

Basic Sewing Operations

Tip: Always test stitch on scrap fabric first. Use appropriate presser foot for each function.

Advanced Functions

One-step buttonhole, free-motion sewing, decorative stitching.

  1. Buttonhole: Attach buttonhole foot, select buttonhole stitch, place fabric under foot.
  2. Free-motion: Lower feed dogs, use darning foot for quilting or embroidery.
  3. Decorative stitches: Select pattern, adjust width and length for desired effect.
  4. Memory function: Store frequently used stitch combinations.
  5. Mirror image: Create symmetrical stitch patterns.

WARNING! Keep hands clear of moving parts. Turn off power when changing feet or accessories.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance. Unplug before maintenance.

  1. Remove needle plate: Clean lint from bobbin area.
  2. Oil machine: Use sewing machine oil on moving parts as directed.
  3. Clean exterior: Use soft, dry cloth only.
  4. Replace needle: Change needle after every project or 8 hours of sewing.

CAUTION! Use only Janome recommended needles and accessories. Do not use compressed air for cleaning.
