Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable sewing table.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and protective covers.
  2. Attach power cord to machine and plug into wall outlet.
  3. Install foot controller into designated port.
  4. Attach extension table for flat bed sewing.
  5. Wind and install bobbin following threading diagram.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during operation. Always turn off power when threading or changing needles.

First-Time Operation

Power on machine; follow setup procedure.

  1. Thread machine: Follow numbered threading path on machine.
  2. Use automatic needle threader: Lower lever to thread needle automatically.
  3. Insert bobbin: Place bobbin in case with thread pulling counterclockwise.
  4. Select stitch: Choose from 33 built-in stitches using dial.
  5. Test sew: Use scrap fabric to test stitch settings.

CAUTION! Always use proper needle for fabric type. Replace bent or damaged needles immediately.

Stitch Selection

  4. Select needle position as needed.
  5. Test stitch on scrap fabric before sewing project.

Advanced Functions

Auto Buttonhole: Select buttonhole stitch, place button in foot, machine automatically sews perfect buttonhole.

  1. Attach buttonhole foot.
  2. Select buttonhole stitch on dial.
  3. Place button in foot groove for size measurement.
  4. Start sewing - machine completes buttonhole automatically.

Drop Feed: Lower feed dogs for free-motion quilting, darning, or embroidery.

WARNING! Always raise feed dogs when returning to regular sewing.

Maintenance & Care

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Clean lint from bobbin area after each project.
  2. Oil machine as indicated in manual (specific points only).
  3. Replace needles regularly (every 8-10 hours of sewing).
  4. Use compressed air to remove dust from internal mechanisms.
  5. Cover machine when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

CAUTION! Unplug machine before cleaning or maintenance. Use only Janome recommended oils.
